Characterand how to build them
1. Concept
First, it's good to have an idea of a character you want to make, and not only abilities, but character and outlook. It doesn't have to be precise, with every bit of backstory and personality. Just an outline is enough
2. Race
Now pick a race, that your character belongs to. Races are as follows:
- Dragonborn
- Dwarf
- Elf
- Gnome
- Half Elf
- Half Orc
- Halfling
- Human
- Tiefling
3. Class
In newest edition of Dungeons and Dragons we are met with multitude of class each having it's own upsides and downsides. Now it all depends on whether one wants to be a powerful mage, ominous sorcerer, or rather any of less complex classes such as barbarian or warrior. For reference you can look over here:
- Barbarian
- Bard
- Cleric
- Druid
- Fighter
- Monk
- Paladin
- Ranger
- Rogue
- Sorcerer
- Warlock
- Wizard
4. Background
In core rulebook are dozens of backgrounds that specify the past of your character. At least to some extent. The story is of course for you to decide. That said it is also a source of abilities, proficiencies and languages.
The list is to long so here is a link to it: LINK
5. Finishing touches
Now that you have a knowledge of what your character needs you can create one for yourself and your friends. That said those things aren't to impose restrictions on your character. They just outline the path of their ability growth. It doesn't mean, That you can't simply disregard them. So feel free to make bizarre combinations that are going to be fun to play with.
